It's not just a free trade zone, but also a vibrant new coastal city. It perfectly blends modern urban prosperity with pristine natural ecology, making it a severely underrated tourist destination.

On my first visit to Nansha, I admit I had some prejudices. After all, many people view Nansha as just an ordinary industrial zone. But when I actually set foot on this land, I discovered it was a treasure trove full of countless surprises. It not only boasts scenery comparable to international coastal cities but also features unique cultural characteristics.

Walking through Nansha's streets, you can truly feel the city's vigorous vitality. New commercial centers contrast interestingly with traditional fishing villages, while modern port facilities coexist harmoniously with natural wetlands. Transportation Guide

Getting to Nansha is incredibly convenient! If you're staying in Guangzhou's city center like me, you have multiple transportation options. Metro Line 4 is the most economical choice, taking about 1 hour and 15 minutes from downtown Guangzhou to Nansha Passenger Port. Though it might seem long, time passes quickly as you sit comfortably in the metro car watching the scenery change outside.

For those who prefer driving, Nansha is an ideal self-driving destination. The Guangzhou-Nansha Port Express is entirely elevated, and it takes only about an hour to drive from Zhujiang New Town to Nansha with smooth traffic. The scenery along the way is quite nice, especially when passing the Pearl River section, offering panoramic river views that refresh the spirit.

If you want a more interesting experience, you can choose the water bus. Though it takes a bit longer from downtown Guangzhou to Nansha by water bus, the river views along the way are absolutely worth it. Especially at sunset, sitting on the boat watching the scenery on both banks and feeling the river breeze is truly an unforgettable experience.

Besides these regular transportation options, Nansha also operates multiple bus routes connecting major attractions. However, based on my experience, if you want to explore Nansha in depth, it's best to drive yourself or hire a car. This not only saves time on transportation but also makes your itinerary more flexible.

When it comes to must-visit spots in Nansha, I have to highly recommend Nansha Wetland Park. Known as "Asia's largest urban artificial wetland," this park will revolutionize your concept of city parks. You can have lunch at the park's restaurant and visit the weather forecast tower in the afternoon to overlook the spectacular views of the entire wetland park. Another must-see attraction is the Nansha Cruise Terminal. Acclaimed as Asia's largest cruise home port, its design was inspired by wave forms, with the overall shape resembling a blooming lotus. Although international cruise routes haven't fully resumed yet, the building itself is impressive enough.

The viewing platform at the cruise terminal is an excellent spot for photography. From there, you can see the magnificent view of the Pearl River estuary and watch cargo ships and fishing boats come and go. On clear days, you can even see the Lingdingyang waters and Hong Kong's silhouette. Especially at sunset, when the entire port is bathed in golden sunlight, combined with the passing vessels, it creates a moving portrait of harbor scenery.

Worth mentioning is the Nansha Tianhou Temple, an ancient Mazu temple. Though not particularly large, it's very popular with worshippers. The temple buildings are well-preserved, exuding a strong historical and cultural atmosphere. If you're interested in traditional Chinese culture, you must visit. The temple's architectural carvings are exquisite, with every detail worth careful appreciation.

Honestly, Nansha's food really surprised me. The seafood here is both fresh and affordable, guaranteed to greatly satisfy your taste buds. Nansha Fisherman's Wharf food street is my top recommendation, featuring various seafood restaurants, each with their own unique signature dishes.

Last time I ate here with a friend, we ordered a table full of seafood, including blanched shrimp, steamed grouper, ginger and scallion crab, and several special stir-fries, all for just 300 yuan for two people. In downtown Guangzhou, the same dishes would cost at least 500 yuan. Most importantly, the seafood here is caught by fishermen that very morning, guaranteeing its freshness.

Besides seafood, Nansha has many special snacks worth trying. For example, Nansha's specialty sand worms might sound scary, but when made into sand worm soup, they're really delicious. There's also local boat congee, made with fresh seafood, rich and tasty, a breakfast favorite among locals.

Near Fisherman's Wharf, there are some trendy restaurants featuring creative cuisine. These restaurants not only serve delicious food but are also great for taking photos. I especially recommend a restaurant specializing in creative seafood cuisine - their seafood fried rice and seafood pasta are outstanding, and the prices are very reasonable.

If you want to try local dim sum, Nansha won't disappoint. There are many traditional tea houses here, and while they might not be as famous as those in downtown Guangzhou, the quality is definitely guaranteed. Plus, they're much cheaper and you don't need to queue, allowing you to leisurely enjoy authentic dim sum.

Accommodation Recommendations

Regarding accommodation, Nansha actually offers rich choices. From high-end hotels to budget hotels, from guesthouses to hostels, you can find something suitable. I personally most recommend the high-star hotels along Nansha Bay, which offer excellent value for money.

These hotels cost about one-third less than those in downtown Guangzhou, but the facilities and service quality aren't compromised at all. Best of all, many rooms offer views of the Pearl River estuary. Opening the curtains in the morning, you can enjoy spectacular sunrises; at night, the harbor's lights present another beautiful scene.

If you want a different accommodation experience, Nansha also has some distinctive guesthouses. Some are built right in fishing villages, allowing you to truly experience local life. In the evening, you can chat with the guesthouse owners and hear stories about Nansha's changes, an experience you can't get staying in hotels.

For backpackers, Nansha also has some great youth hostels. These hostels usually have good locations, convenient transportation, and affordable prices. Most importantly, you can meet travelers from all over the country here and share travel experiences and tips.

In-Depth Experiences

If you want some unique experiences, Nansha definitely won't disappoint. Besides the previously mentioned cruise terminal, there are many interesting places waiting for you to discover.

For example, while the Nansha Shipyard isn't open to public visits, you can still see huge dry docks and ships under construction from nearby viewing platforms. Especially on workdays, you can watch various large machinery in operation, experiencing the magnificent scale of modern industry.

Nansha also has some interesting creative parks that gather many young artists' studios. There are often small exhibitions and markets on weekends, perfect for experiencing Nansha's artistic atmosphere. The cafes and creative shops here are also very distinctive, definitely satisfying your artistic soul.

If you're a sports enthusiast, don't miss Nansha's coastal walkway. This path extends for several kilometers, with beautiful scenery along the way, perfect for running or cycling. Especially in the evening, jogging along the path while watching the sun slowly sink into the sea is really wonderful.

Itinerary Suggestions

Based on my multiple visits to Nansha, I suggest arranging your 72 hours like this:

Focus on natural landscapes on the first day. Go to the wetland park early in the morning when the light is good for taking excellent photos. Have a simple lunch at the park's restaurant, then continue exploring other areas of the wetland park in the afternoon. In the evening, take a walk on the coastal path to experience Nansha's sunset views.

The second day can be about experiencing Nansha's modern and traditional aspects. Visit the cruise terminal in the morning to experience the grandeur of the modern port. The third day can be a cultural tour. Visit Nansha Tianhou Temple in the morning to learn about the Mazu culture here. Have dim sum at a traditional tea house for lunch, then visit fishing villages in the afternoon to experience the most authentic flavor of Nansha.

Practical Tips

Based on my experience, it's best to avoid visiting Nansha during summer vacation and National Day Golden Week. These times are not only crowded but also not very comfortable weather-wise. The best time to visit is during spring and autumn, when the temperature is moderate and there are relatively fewer tourists, allowing you to better experience Nansha's beauty.

Although Nansha's public transportation is continuously improving, if you want to explore in depth, I still recommend driving yourself or hiring a car. This not only saves time on transportation but also makes your itinerary more flexible.

Remember to bring sun protection products when visiting Nansha, as UV rays are quite strong near the sea. If you plan to visit the wetland park, it's best to wear sports shoes and bring binoculars if you have them. A camera is essential, as Nansha's scenery is really great for photography.
